NS Nunavut Command
Funding: So how does the funding at the Paws Fur Thought initiative work?
When we first launched the NS Nunavut Command of the Royal Canadian Legion stepped up and became our charitable entity through their Benevolent Fund. Funds donated were send directly to the Command and their were receipted and held in a separate account. As veterans in need were identified, funds were requisitioned and sent directly to the schools. This was how the program worked. Very Simple structure.
Then we were faced with funding requests for first responders. That is where Mental Health Nova Scotia stepped in and did exactly what was done by the Royal Canadian Legion. Again, they raise, receipt and disburse the funds directly to help pair first responders in need.
We cannot thank Valerie Mitchell-Vienotte and Starr Dobson, and all of their wonderful staff who have stepped in and helped us execute on the mission of pairing service dogs with those who battle PTSD.
Both organizations provide charitable tax receipts and have been instrumental in making "Pawsome" things happen.
